Android App of the Week: CallTrack
Posted on 05 May 2010
If you are a fan of Android apps, you are probably already aware of this wonderful, amazing tool. I know several luminaries of the web have already spoken about this app and I hate to jump on the bandwagon but I fell in love with this tool.
It wasn’t love at first sight, though, since I couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted it to. To explain my dilemma, let me first explain how CallTrack works. Once you’ve installed CallTrack to your Android phone, you set up a calendar on your Google account that you want to use to track your phone calls. This is where I ran into problems since I couldn’t get CallTrack to recognize my special calendar and it was recording all the calls to my main personal calendar. I could have lived with that, but it annoyed me that it wasn’t working as others claimed it could. I gave up and came back to it the next day and it suddenly was recognizing the extra calendar I had set up. I am guessing that it required time to update.
You get to choose what calls it will track. All incoming calls, outgoing calls, and missed calls can be recorded on your calendar. It will record the time and contact (or phone number) associated with the call. You can then go to the calendar and add additional notes.
I am not an avid phone talker. I keep most communication in text form, but the few phone calls I do make are usually fairly important and keeping track of exactly when I made the call (or received it) is important. I used to rely mainly on memory and a notebook for this stuff, but inevitably I’d get a phone call when I’m not near my notebook and then I have to remember to go back to my phonelog and pull the information. Yes, that really isn’t that big of a deal but CallTrack does it for me. I still have to worry about taking the notes of the phonecall and getting them entered into the calendar if necessary, but with the call already captured in the calendar I have that reminder to prod me.
