Nobody uses the Internet on Fridays

Posted on 23 April 2010

Chock full of goodness.

It is Friday and as you know by now, nobody uses the Internet on Friday which means I get to do whatever I want with it.  And on this Friday I’ve uncovered some amazingly wonderful treasures that I’m busting at the seams to share with you.

This is a pure Geek edition of Nobody uses the Internet of Fridays.

8-Bit Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along… Game.  Combine the greatest thing to hit web video since… well… The Guild? with 8-bit gaming history and you have one of the most creative innovative reinterpretations of modern media ever thanks to the efforts of Doctor Octoroc.

Act II is finished and ready for viewing (it is in two parts). Stuff like this makes me so happy and I can only get stuff like this because of the awesomeness of the Internet (and the awesomeness of Joss Whedon who isn’t issuing cease and desist letters to stop this from happening.)

That video in and of itself is so full of geeky goodness that I could claim I did my duty. I will not stop there. Here is a fascinating transmedia project called Geek-A-Week.

Geek-A-Week is the effort of the great artist, Len Peralta, to collect 52 Geeks and turn them into trading cards.

He has nine geeks down and many more to go, you know, fifty-two minus nine, whatever that equals. Len also includes a podcast with his efforts which makes this a true transmedia experience. I love transmedia experiences. I love the Internet because it makes transmedia experiences possible. Am I over using the word transmedia? Does transmedia even have a definition? Well, I know transmedia storytelling is well defined and the Producer Guild of America created a credit for Transmedia Producer.

Yep, definitely have reached the maximum number of times I’m allowed to use that word. I can’t even bring myself to write it, say it, or even think it.

A new Doctor Who premiered last weekend which makes this find a real awesome treasure. Sometimes it is easy to forget that Geeks have been around for a long time and Geeks like expressing their geeky desires in random awesome ways, like through making cakes. Take this 1966 show which is about making Daleks in cake form.

Brilliant, amazingly brilliant.

The Geek-o-Meter is full so I better put the Internet away before I overload on Geekiness.

Until next week, its your internet, use it or lose it.
