Nobody uses the internet on Fridays

Another Friday and there the internet sits, unused.  It reminds me of the poor hamster left in the classroom for the weekend when all the kids go home.  It is happy to finally be left alone without all the tap-tap-tapping on its hamster cage and all those snotty fingers trying to pet it, but in the sudden silence, it wonders if the din of the classroom activities will ever return.  The internet is the same way.  It is happy that it isn’t being asked to arrange pink slip mixers, seek out obscure quotes from a long dead actor, or locate old flames of people in sad marriages, but it also wonders if maybe its heyday is gone.  Maybe a new fad has taken over.  It has heard good things about that cup and ball toy.

I’m here to remind the internet that it isn’t just a passing fad.  While the world may not be using the internet on Friday, I’ll play the role of the janitor, coming into the classroom and giving the hamster a new toilet paper roll to chew on until the kids return.

So much delightful craziness on the internet that I don’t know where to start.  I love whimsy and there is nothing more whimsical than giant vegetables being used for practical things.  James and the Giant Peach, for example, was about a giant fruit that was home to many.  Cinderella had the pumpkin turned into a coach.  Well, an English gardener by the name of Medwyn Williams is growing a giant gourd of his own in order to sail to the Isle of Man.  The gourd, a pumpkin I believe, weighs in excess of 1,000 pounds and will be fitted with a seat and outboard motor.

Sometimes when people attempt to market their services they get confused between the services they are offering and the problems they are trying to fix.  Easy enough mistake to make.

Sometimes people get bored.  When they get bored they do fantastic things.  Witness this amazing video made with the game Starcraft 2.

That represents some of the absolute best of the internet for this week.  I think the internet knows it hasn’t been abandoned, that it is still loved and not a passing fad.  It doesn’t have to worry about being fed to the classroom pet snake.  At least not this week.  That cup and ball toy is quite compelling.
