The Geek Index Update March 2, 2009

Posted on 02 March 2009

The Geek Index took a huge tumble today due to the hit geek related stocks took in the market. The entire stock market suffered today – the stocks across the board lost value. Add in the fact that movie theaters lost some of the Geek movies that was helping keep the index propped up and the TV ratings have been going against Geek shows on mainstream TV.

This actually highlights a problem with the TV portion of the GI in that Geek interests a niche interests as a whole which means Geeks are distributed across a wide array of channels and programs. I’m thinking the index needs to have an adjustment to calculate the percentage of primetime scheduling across the board devoted to Geeks.
